Phi Beta Kappa at Stanford University

As medical director for the Allergy & Asthma Clinic in San Mateo, California, Dr. Andrew Engler has been an engaged physician in the community for more than thirty years. Dr. Andrew Engler is also a member of a number of professional organizations and achieved several academic honors, including membership in Phi Beta Kappa, where he was accepted as a junior in the top 1.5 percent of his class at Stanford University.

Phi Beta Kappa is a society that honors students across the nation for their excellence in academics and the variety of their undergraduate accomplishments. Only about 10 percent of colleges and universities have a Phi Beta Kappa chapter, and at these institutions, only around 10 percent of all students are eligible for membership.

The chapter located at Stanford University offers a graduate student scholarship opportunity of between $5,000 and $7,500. Applicants must be elected members of Phi Beta Kappa and complete an application and statement of objectives and accomplishments, provide a writing sample, give a summary of their research, and provide three letters of recommendation. Phi Beta Kappa also offers opportunities for internships, including a writing internship, National Arts and Sciences Initiative internship, and a Communications and Member Engagement internship.
